Noboribetsu Jigoku Festival 2018
Noboribetsu Jigoku Festival 2018
Date: August 24th to 26th, 2018
Location: Noboribetsu Onsen, located two hours outside of Sapporo
Details: Also known as the “Hell Festival”, this is a event that marks when the gates of Jigokudani (Hell Valley) open and Enma, the King of Hell, emerges to walk the streets of the city!
As the festival is dedicated to the Oni that reside and protect Noboribetsu, you will be treated to a weekend of demon themed entertainment. This includes parades with Oni themed floats, demon dance performances, fireworks and local folk entertainment that includes bear dances and taiko drumming!
This is also a great opportunity to visit Jigokudani, the natural phenomenon responsible for Noboribetsu’s hotspring water! It’s a beautiful view with many short hiking trails, and will leave you in complete awe!
