Which Vehicle Should I Choose? — Hokkaido Private Transfer Guide

Not sure whether to book an Alphard or Hiace Grand Cabin for your Hokkaido trip? Here's what your group actually needs.

Which Vehicle Should I Choose? — Hokkaido Private Transfer Guide

The context

You've sorted the flights.
Now what car do you book?

In Japan, choosing the right vehicle is about more than simply matching seats to passenger numbers. Luggage, travel comfort, and the overall journey all play an important role.

A vehicle that works perfectly for one group may feel cramped for another, while a larger bus isn't always necessary. The goal is finding the option that best suits your itinerary, luggage requirements, and budget.

To help make the decision easier, we've put together a straightforward guide based on the questions travelers ask us most often.

The lineup

Your vehicles

Premium luxury
Toyota Alphard
& Vellfire

For couples, solo travelers & small families

Our go-to for anyone who wants the transfer to feel like part of the holiday, not just a ride to it. Whisper-quiet, genuinely premium, and the kind of car that makes a long airport run feel effortless.

3
Passengers
3–4
Standard bags
2
With ski bags
Travelling with ski or snowboard bags? Bulky equipment limits this vehicle to 2 passengers max — worth flagging when you enquire.
The all-rounder
Toyota Hiace
Grand Cabin

For families, groups & private tour itineraries

The workhorse we trust for almost every group booking. High ceiling, smooth ride, a proper dedicated luggage section — and enough room that nobody's elbowing each other after 14 hours of travel.

9
Passengers
6–8
Large bags
10
Bags (4–5 pax)
9 passengers is a legal ceiling in Japan for taxi-licensed vehicles. Groups of 10+ require a charter bus licence — a meaningful jump in price.

Ski bags change everything

Ski bags are long, awkward, and bulky. A group of 3 travelling with ski bags may need to reconsider the Alphard. The Hiace Grand Cabin handles them without compromise — and that's usually the deciding factor for ski groups.
